During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A Chandra image release was issued on Jun 24 featuring the motions of the supernova remnant MSH 15-52 which have been measured for the first time, using the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The blast wave and debris from an exploded star are seen moving away from the explosion site and colliding with a wall of surrounding gas. Images from 2004-2018 show the blast wave moving at about 4,000 km/sec. For details, see: https://chandra.si.edu/photo/2021/msh1552/ The schedule of targets for next week is shown below and includes an observation of MAXI J1348-630, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on May 14, and an observation of eRASSt J234403.0-352640, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on May 11. |
