During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Chandra press and image releases were issued on May 9 describing an exhaust vent attached to a “chimney” of hot gas ejected from the center of the Milky Way galaxy, at about 26,000 light years from Earth. A combination of data from Chandra, XMM-Newton, and the MeerKAT radio telescope identified the chimney and vent, along with the effects of magnetic fields enclosing the gas in the chimney. For details, see https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/24_releases/press_050924.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
