During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the 8th (and final) eclipse of the season on Aug 7, with nominal power and thermal performance. Real-time procedures were executed on Aug 8 to disable SCS-29 and to dump and clear the EPS glitch counters as post-eclipse season actions.

A Chandra photo release was issued on Aug 9 describing observations of the Tarantula Nebula. Located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, the Tarantula has thousands of young stars embedded in a vibrant honeycomb-like structure of gas and dust. The new composite image contains X-ray data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, infrared data from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, and optical data from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. The X-ray data reveal gas blown away by winds from the surfaces of young, massive stars and heated to millions of degrees by shock waves.
