Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 20 August 2010 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra press release was issued on Aug 18 describing observations of the nearby, massive galaxy, M87. A galactic "super-volcano" in the massive galaxy M87 is erupting and blasting gas outwards, as witnessed by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and NSF's Very Large Array. The cosmic volcano is being driven by a giant black hole in the galaxy's center and preventing hundreds of millions of new stars from forming. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/10_releases/press_081810.html

Also of note this week was the distribution to proposers of the Cycle 12 Results e-letters.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below.
